Storm-Proofing Your Shed

With summer’s stormy weather upon us, home and business owners have many things to be aware of when it comes to possible property damages. Once your main building or your home is safe from potential issues that can arise during inclement weather, make sure you take some time to secure your outlying buildings, such as storage units and sheds.
Oftentimes, a unit like this will be at the back of your property under trees or near fence lines, so an inspection of that area will be something that can be worth your time. If the surrounding trees are large and have branches that are not healthy, removing them before storms hit can alleviate any damage there. If the tree itself is leaning or looks like it might not last the storm season out, contact a tree removal service as soon as possible and have the tree taken out.
A sturdy fence in good repair is a great way to secure your property from many potential problems. If the fence falls over onto your shed or storage unit, it can possibly create holes in the walls, allowing rain or snow to get into the space and damage the items stored there.
An inspection of the roof of your storage shed is, of course, something you will want to complete on a regular basis, and especially before rainy seasons. Make sure any doors or windows are properly sealed and unbroken. The ground area surrounding the unit needs to be well-drained also so that your storage space doesn’t sit in water and become unstable, or worse yet - develop a mold issue that could be very difficult to handle during wet months.
