The Hidden Danger of Clogged Dryer Vents

Frustrated your clothes aren’t drying as fast as they used to? Beware of the possible hidden danger. Dryer vents can begin to get clogged with lint and other debris that are easily ignitable. Did you know that dryer vent fires are one of the leading causes of house fires in the U.S.
According to the U.S. Fire Administration clothing dryers are reported to cause an astonishing 2,900 home fires each year! With the leading cause of clothing dryer fires being neglect to having the dryers cleaned.
The U.S. Fire Administration also has some helpful tips for clothing dryer safety:
Cleaning:
- Clean the lint filter before and after each load of laundry.
- Clean lint out of the vent pipe every three months.
- Have your dryer cleaned regularly by a professional; like SERVPRO. Especially if it is taking longer than normal for clothes to dry.
Maintenance:
- Inspect the venting system behind the dryer to ensure it is not damaged or restricted.
- Put a covering on outside wall dampers to keep outrain, snow and dirt.
- Make sure the outdoor vent covering opens when the dryer is on.
