Freshly- Cut Christmas Tree Care

The smell of pine feeling the aroma in your home, truly makes it feel like the Holidays have arrived. Maybe it is your first year with a real tree, or possibly you just want to learn more about caring for the tree. We have you covered by a compiled list of tree care tips!

Keeping the Christmas tree fresh and alive:

1. A freshly cut tree trunk needs to have the spores exposed on the bottom allowing the tree to soak up nutrients. If you buy a tree from a lot before you leave ask them to saw of 2 inchs of the trunk to make it freshly opened spores.

2. According to the Old Farmers Almanac a freshly cut Christmas tree consumes a gallon of water every 24-hours. A helpful tip for keeping your tree watered is to fill the base with a well watered soil.

3. A key for keeping your Christmas tree alive is to avoid placing it on top of heating and cooling vents. 

Along with the fun that a freshly-cut Christmas tree can bring into a home, there is also many dangerous to keep in mind.

Dangerous to avoid with a freshly- cut Christmas tree:

1. Water, water, and more water. The best fire safety tip for freshly- cut trees are water. Without water your tree is producing oxogen and drying out.

2. Avoid placing the tree next to fireplaces, candles, and lights.

3. When your tree starts to shed needles and dry out, its time to toss it out. The longer the tree sits inside the home with falling needles, the risk of a home fire increases.

4. Make sure your Christmas lights have been lab tested and there are no broken lights.

5. Always turn off Christmas lights before going to bed or leaving your home.
