What to Know About Tropical Storm Michael

Tropical Storm Michael is set to hit the Gulf Coast early Wednesday morning and travel across South Georgia. Meteorologist Karen Minton from WSB-TV Channel 2 says "5AM Update shows it is increasing in intensity. Sustained winds now 70 mph. It will become a hurricane later today. Expected to make landfall along Florida panhandle or Big Bend area on Wednesday and moving across GA WED PM/Thurs".
It's important to stay informed and prepared while we prepare for Tropical Storm Michael to increase to a possible hurricane. Florida Governor Rick Scott declared state of emergency as the storm approaches and says "this storm will be life-threatening and extremely dangerous".
Continue to stay prepared:
Be prepared to evacuate quickly and know your routes and destinations. Find a local emergency shelter. Check your emergency kit and replenish any items missing or in short supply, especially medications or other medical supplies. Keep it nearby.
Other tips for hurricane prep include: Fill plastic bottles with clean water for drinking. Fill bathtubs and sinks with water for flushing the toilet or washing the floor or clothing. Fill your car's gas tank, in case an evacuation notice is issued. Turn off propane tanks and unplug small appliances. Bring in anything that can be picked up by the wind, such as bicycles and patio furniture.
